Celebrating its 30th anniversary, D.E. Rink Construction, Inc. is well known in Bend for its relationship with clients, attention to detail, and love of the local community.
D.E. Rink Construction, Inc. is a full- service construction company focusing on residential and commercial projects. The company covers a broad range including residential custom homes and remodels, commercial projects, medical, and tenant improvements. Chances are you live, work, or dine in a building by D.E. Rink Construction. “We consistently provide a hands-on team approach while working with the architect, design team, and client to see the project through planning,” said David Rink, President. “Then we call on dependable and professional craftsmen and suppliers to carry out the plans to successful completion.”
“We are focused on remodels right now, and that’s not been just a recent occurrence,” he said. “We have been doing remodels for at least 20 years or more. Remodeling is a specialty and it takes an experienced contractor and workers to be aware of the owner’s surroundings. We can suggest valuable cost saving ideas with every project.”
D.E. Rink also enjoys working on green construction as well and has been doing so since the early ‘90s. David says new products are emerging every day, and the company takes pride in only using those products that have been certified and are under warranty.
“We have seen owners and contractors get stuck with a flawed product,” David said. “We try to make sure the products we use are proven and there is a good company to stand behind it.”
So how did D.E. Construction get started? When David finished college, he was determined to “set the world on fire and make a difference.” He started out his career by working for the Forest Service.
David soon discovered he would have to take a different approach to make his mark, so he moved on to construction; working as a roofer, framer, and drywall installer. He started out working for several general contractors in Central Oregon and managed projects onsite. Eventually, in 1979, David decided to create D.E. Rink Construction, Inc. and worked from his dining room table.
With the help of his wife Liz, over the next few years the two would move the company forward with professionalism, while gaining more insight and knowledge in the industry from the Central Oregon Builders Association (COBA) and the Business Basics Class at COCC. “We have been a part of COBA since 1986 and we are very proud to see how they’ve grown and become influential in the community,” said Liz.
Since its early beginnings, D.E. Rink Construction has continued to grow and thrive in the community. They pride themselves on organized, well-planned projects and focus on customer service. “We are a large small company; our eight employees are like a family,” said David. “The personal touch has earned us the reputation as one of the area’s best builders.”
While growing their company and watching Bend grow as well, David and Liz continue to be firm believers in giving back to the local community. “We have lived here for 33 years,” said Liz. “Bend is our home, and if everyone gives back a little, it makes a richer community.”
Besides volunteering time with various organizations like the Bend Chamber of Commerce, COBA, and the Arts, Beautification, and Culture Commission, D.E. Rink Construction also contributes to many local organizations like the St. Charles Foundation, The Center Foundation, The Kids Center, Campfire USA, Special Olympics, Deschutes Historical Society, and Central Oregon Resources for Independent Living (CORIL).
D.E. Rink Construction continues to be a family run business as David and Liz’s daughter Brianna has joined the company as the Office Manager. David says he looks forward to working with his daughter and continuing the company for another 30 years. “I will not completely retire because I love my job,” he said.
David and Liz both agree they are proud to be this month’s Salute to Commerce winner. “It’s an honor to be selected by our peers and it tells us that we are being noticed for our contributions,” said David. “Bend has such a strong business community; it’s an honor and a lot of fun to be a part of it.”
